Rhos overcomes speech impediment with new apprenticeship

Rhos Maton, aged 18, was a car enthusiast and wanted to secure a future in mechanics. Via his training provider, he was placed on an apprenticeship with Evans Halshaw Citroën dealership in Cardiff.

Rhos said: “When I get nervous I sometimes stutter which can make it difficult when having a conversation. This apprenticeship has given me the confidence boost

I needed to help me overcome my fear of talking to strangers. I now find it much easier being able to chat to customers without any problems”.

Working five days a week in the garage, Rhos attends monthly training sessions at Citroen’s head office. He says that the apprenticeship is “a fantastic way to earn while I’m learning”.

In addition to his apprenticeship training, Rhos has also completed a mathematics qualification to boost his numeracy skills, an essential skill for the job.
